Easy Does It With Robotic Lawn Mowers

Everything is automated nowadays. Seems like every manufacturer’s aim in innovating a product is to make it all faster and simpler. Surprisingly, robot mowers have been around for a few years now. You thought that mowing the lawns was a breeze after those industrial machines came out right?

Well, those became obsolete with the appearance of these intelligent robotic lawn mowers. Imagine mowing the lawn right there under the cool shade of your front porch. All you need is to push the button on the remote, look at the robotic lawn mower, and make sure it is right where the grass is thick.

The robotic lawn mower effectively mows lawn of regular size, within its average run time of 2 hours. But it depends on the power of the mower, of course. The bigger it is, the longer the run time it will have. The Zuchetti Ambrogio Evolution is equipped with a rechargeable Lithium battery to power up the blades and runs for 2 hours.

For the robotic lawn mower to be within the area, you would have to setup a perimeter wire. Some wires can be placed below the surface of your lawn. Although this sounds to be a taxing job, you can do it in less than an hour if you have a relatively small yard. The wires are detected by the robotic lawn mower making it follow along it or turn the other way.

You wouldn’t want it straying away towards your neighbor’s lawn, would you? With this perimeter fence, you can protect your flowerbeds and garden. Run the wire around it and the robotic lawn mower would leave it alone. Slopes up to 28 degrees should be tolerable for a robotic lawn mower such as the Zucchetti Ambrogio Evolution. Protruding tree roots should not be a problem either. With its robotic blades, the lawn mower would run around the perimeter wires first and proceed to the middle area, moving in a V pattern.

This means that the robotic lawn mower might cover a certain area multiple times while missing a certain part several times over. Looking on the bright side, you’re not the one getting tired anyway. The cost of the robotic lawn mower doesn’t seem to be an issue. It actually costs less than those heavy-duty regular lawn mowers. The Zucchetti Ambrogio Evolution retails for CA $2,899.99 at RobotShop.ca. Given that, if and when you feel that your old trusty lawn mower needs back up or even a replacement, trying the robotic lawn mower might be a good idea.

Robotic lawn mowers sure catch attention. Well, you can always ask your neighbour or pay a kid to trim your lawn, but one way or another, you would have to do it yourself sometimes. And with the robotic lawn mower just waiting for orders at your backyard, lawn mowing is now almost effortless.

Tips For Seniors

Since January, millions of seniors have enrolled in the new Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit plan. However, the task of choosing a plan may seem daunting and can often be confusing for seniors even after they have enrolled.

The decision to participate is important, and careful consideration is vital to ensure a plan is chosen that best meets a customer’s needs. To get help in finding the right plan, seniors and caregivers may want to consult their local pharmacists, who are the most accessible members of the health care delivery system. Many pharmacists are specifically trained on how to explain the Medicare Part D drug benefit to their customers and can help guide seniors through the process.

“Over the last several months, we have assisted many customers to help them better understand their choices under the Medicare Part D drug benefit. We will continue our efforts to help customers work their way through the large number of choices available to them,” said Matt Leonard, Senior Vice President of Pharmacy at CVS/pharmacy. “One of the most important steps when choosing a plan is to ensure current prescription drugs are covered, and your local pharmacist is a great resource for that.”

Because health needs can change quickly, a Medicare Part D plan may be appropriate even if a customer’s costs and number of prescriptions are currently low. Once a decision has been made to enroll in a particular plan, the following facts should be taken into consideration to ensure a smooth process:

• Customers who enroll in a plan after the May 15, 2006, deadline will pay higher premiums, and their next opportunity to enroll will not be until November 15, 2006.

• Submit your enrollment application to the insurance plan of your choice as early in the month as possible. That way, there is enough time to mail out your new Medicare Prescription Drug Card and enter you into the system before your coverage begins on the first day of the following month.

• When first utilizing your new Medicare Prescription Drug Card, order your prescription refill while you still have a few days’ supply remaining. This will ensure that you do not run out of your medication if your pharmacist needs time to research and resolve any issues pertaining to your new Medicare coverage.

Medicare Part D can greatly benefit seniors who take the time to make an informed decision. In addition to personalized assistance from a pharmacist, Medicare Information Centers are available in all CVS/pharmacy stores. The Centers explain how Medicare drug plans will work and assist customers in selecting a plan that best meets their needs.

Providing Respite For The Family Caregiver

Progress is being made on the homefront for those caring for family members suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. Currently, about two-thirds of Americans with those conditions are cared for at home.

As the disease progresses it carries with it a tremendous burden, both physically and psychologically on the family members-usually the husband, wife or partner–who are doing the caregiving. That is why it is vital that the family access community support systems, such as local Alzheimer’s organizations, that can provide reassurance and support groups.

It is also important that family caregivers seek outside help if they feel they are becoming ill from the strain of caregiving as the disease progresses. The strain can easily become intolerable for spouses trying to cope all alone at home with an Alzheimer’s sufferer and they themselves can have a physical or mental breakdown.

There should be no shame or guilt in seeking respite care from a professional home care agency. People who are not trained professionals often find it a strain to be caregivers, and should not feel that this makes them a bad or unloving partner or child. By turning to outside resources, a family can delay having to place Alzheimer’s sufferers in a long-term-care facility and, instead, keep them in the comfort of their own home.

Interim HealthCare has formed a strategic partnership with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) to support AFA’s goals related to dementia care professionals, including:

• Raise the level of professional care provided to individuals who are suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia;

• Support professionals as they support those in need by providing practical training;

• Set standards of excellence through the AFA qualification program;

• Offer networking and advocacy opportunities.

Interim HealthCare, a leader in the home healthcare industry, recognizes the special needs of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and their families. Creating an Alzheimer’s- and dementia-friendly and safe environment is an important step in making it possible for people to remain at home much longer and further into the disease.

Making Your Own Country Wood Crafts

Country wood crafts have found a place in recent years in many homes that have very little otherwise in the way of country decor. Many different types of crafts have shown up in droves, from the simple things such as plaques and wicker baskets, to much more complex carvings and such. There is a beauty to country wood crafts which goes beyond their obvious qualities. Something in the way they are constructed makes a welcome plaque feel truly welcoming, or a handmade carving of a bear more than just shaped wood, but truly as majestic and powerful as the creature it depicts. While it is impossible to truly explain why this is the case, there can be no doubt that it is true.

If you want to bring a sense of welcome to your own home, there is nothing that does so quite as well as a welcoming plaque. It can carry nearly any message or image you desire, and is probably the simplest of all country wood crafts. However, despite being so simple, it can have a great deal of impact on your home, particularly if you choose a message that has a special meaning to you and your family.

Like all country wood crafts, the first thing you will need for your project is wood. The wood you use does not really matter all that much, apart from the size of the piece. It can be in any shape you want, although leaving it in the natural shape it is cut in will give your end result a little bit of an extra rustic feel. You can get this kind of wood from many craft supply stores, in a number of different varieties. Or, if you are so inclined, you could simply cut a piece of wood from a tree or a fairly thick branch to use for your project. Be sure the piece you cut is large enough to hold the message you intend to use.

Once you have your piece cut out, sand the front surface smooth (this is particularly important, because your painting will look rather odd if the surface is not fairly smooth.) You may choose to remove the ring of bark around the outside of your piece, or leave it in place, whichever seems more appealing to you. Also, be sure the thickness of your piece is uniform, as any slant will cause it to hang poorly when put up on a wall.

The last stage of your adventure in country wood crafts is to add your message. For this, you can simply paint on your words, pictures, or whatever else you like by freehand if you are particularly artistically inclined. If you are not, however, there is no need to fear. Simply type out whatever words you want to use on a computer (an odd tool for country wood crafts, but useful nonetheless,) in a nice font, print it out and use a pencil to cover the back of the paper, and place it on the wood. By tracing around the letters, you will leave a pencil line on the wood below, which you can then fill in with paint.

Design your Electrical Lamp

We’ve got a little theme going: designs formed from their mechanical parts. The Electrical Lamp, by designer Tommy Dykes, is made from an old electrical cable which runs from outlet to electrical bulb, with the body molded around a used wine bottle. The eco-lamp comes with a super-efficient electrical bulb that provides up to 50,000 hours of light (which they calculate at 27 years at a rate of 5hrs/day).

The coolest part about the Lead Lamp is that the website essentially offers DIY instructions for making your own lamp with a cord from an old household appliance, with diagrams and step-by-step details — plus lots of information about the recycling and reuse of PVC power cables.

Appliance cords found in the home are made from the Thermoplastic, PVC [polyvinyl chloride.] The term thermoplastic means simply a plastic that when heated softens and hardens again when cooled. This allows it to be moulded into shapes. (Can’t help but wonder about the off-gassing from heating old electrical cables, which is part of the process of making these.)

We love the crafy DIY element of these lamps, and the variety of options you have in selecting the color and thickness of the cord, and the style of used lampshade. You could go basic white like this one, or choose a crazy tassled thing and a bold colored body.

Eco Friendly Baby & Family Products

These minimize the impact on the environment and by taking actions such as recycling you can set a good precedent for the future generation. You can now buy most things in a ‘green’ version for babies including organic baby clothes. There is an increasing movement to return to the old days and use cloth nappies instead of the disposable ones which add to the land fills. Imagine how many of these nappies you can get through in the first years of the babies live? Hundreds if not thousands! Many of these cloth nappy companies are stating ease of use, financial benefits, less rubbish and the comfort of natural cloth over paper and gel against delicate skin as some of the many reasons for making this change. See the GuideMeGreen for companies that offer cloth nappies and other eco products for babies and the home.

I want to enable parents to choose and use products which will benefit baby and his or her family now and protect his / her future environment. GuideMeGreen is essentially a result of my own search for natural and eco-friendly products for my family and offers a service that makes it far easier for other parents to find the right products for them. I often receive requests from teenagers asking for ethical clothing shops and other products of interest them. If teenagers are interested, GuideMeGreen must be doing something right!

Baby Shower Centerpieces: Tips And Ideas For Planning

Baby shower centerpieces are an important aspect of a baby shower and you should take care when making your decision. The more traditional centerpieces that are usually used for baby showers are floral arrangements. You can place a selection of your favorite flowers and arrange them in a beautiful basket. If you have a theme color, or motif, you can incorporate it to the décor of your flower arrangement.

There are many different sizes and shapes of basket that you can use for your flower arrangements. The best thing about flower arrangements is that they add an element of the outdoors in your home. The freshness and beauty of these flowers would add a delicate touch to your baby shower.

If you want to make your centerpiece fun, and more delightful, you can add baby things in your floral basket such as: washcloth, soft toys, baby bottles, bears and bunnies, teething toys, small colorful socks, etc. This would fit right into the theme of the baby shower.

But if you don’t want to make your own baby shower centerpiece, you can always buy these floral centerpieces ready made. The price varies depending on what’s included in the pack. The average price of the baby shower basket is around $60. It includes an arrangement of flowers, and baby items such as: rubber ducks, soft toys, blankets, washcloth, rattles and comb & brush sets.

Another centerpiece that is popular in baby showers is a diaper cake. Now, understand that a diaper cake is actually not an edible cake. It is a set of diapers that is arrange in such a way as to resemble a real cake! The great thing about this is that the diapers can then be used by the baby after the baby shower. This a very practical baby shower centerpiece.

But if what you are after is a more festive mood, you can always use balloons!
After all, what is a celebration without balloons? Tie a stack of colorful balloons
to a weight, then place them on your table. Balloons are very cheap. If you are working on a limited budget, then balloons are a great idea. Plus, they are so easy to find. Just run down to any party store, and voila! Balloons!

Hey! did you know that plants can be centerpieces too? Just add a toy along with a plant, like a tiny bear or a rubber ducky, and place it in a colorful pot. Instantly you have a unique baby shower centerpiece.

Fishbowls work as a great centerpiece too! Decorate your fishbowl with beads, add some water and floating candles. This would make a lovely centerpiece.

A baby shower gift basket also works as a centerpiece too. If you have received such a present in advanced, why not put it out on display. The great thing about this, is that it already follows the theme of a baby shower.

The secret is to get creative. There are no rules when it comes to baby shower centerpieces. You can even use stuffed toys, and tie them to balloons.

Maybe you want to create a beach theme, you can place a small baby blanket, a toy boat, a beach ball, and even a small treasure chest!

The occasion of a baby shower is a happy occasion for a new mother, and the baby on board. Baby shower centerpieces add to the atmosphere of the occasion. So just get creative and have fun with it!

Family History More Popular And Easier Than Ever

Family history is becoming a more popular pastime, especially now that the Internet has made researching your ancestry easier than ever. More than 60 percent of the U.S. Population is interested in tracing family history, according to a 2000 poll by Maritz Marketing Research Inc. This is a 15 percent increase from 1995. This number has most likely increased since then.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints provides a number of helpful resources for family history enthusiasts. One of the best resources for family history on the Internet is www.familysearch.org. According to the website it is “the largest collection of FREE family history, family tree and genealogy records in the world.” This website is the result of decades of research and includes 957 million names. The Family Search website also gives some advice for beginning your family history. It says: Begin with yourself and your immediate family by recording information you already know. Look for important documents such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, and death certificates. When you have written down all the names, dates, places, and relationships you know, then ask your parents, grandparents, other relatives, and family friends for information. Gather as much information from living sources as possible. Then begin to search for records that other people may have compiled about your family (such as published family histories, county histories, and genealogical databases). When you have examined these sources of information, begin your search for records from the time and place your ancestors lived (look for census data and vital records such as birth, marriage, or death certificates).

The LDS church also provides family history research centers at 4,407 sites around the world. These facilities are essentially branches of the Family History Library located in Salt Lake City. They provide access to almost all of the microfilms and microfiche from the central library. These family history centers also have volunteers that will help visitors with their genealogical research. Mike Provard, North American Operations Supervisor for Family History Centers says that in many centers the majority of the patrons are not members of the LDS church. “In the eastern U.S., 90 to 95 percent of the patrons [in some centers] are not members. They are thrilled to have the centers in the area.” (“Family History Centers Spreading,” Ensign, February 2006, 74).

The LDS church definitely provides more resources, records, facilities and tools than any other source for genealogical research. There are, however, a good number of other free family history resources that can be found on the internet. You’ll have to be fairly diligent though as some of these sites can be difficult to find. One site that may be useful in your search of the Social Security Death Index is: www.newenglandancestors.org/research/database/ss/. This site will allow you to search the SSDI for free.

As millions of people begin to look for their ancestors and want to know more about them, the resources and tools available to them are more readily available and easier to use then ever. Now is a great time to start your search.

Baby Formula Types and Benefits

Bottle feeding your baby is a common decision for most moms. It is a decision that may be pondered over for long periods of time as you want to make the right choice as to why you want to bottle feed rather than breastfeed. If you decide to bottle feed, your next dilemma will be what kind of formula is best for your baby.

The most common baby formula to use is the ready-made type. It is the most convenient as you can feed your baby its contents as soon as you open it. The downside is that you are paying for the convenience since ready-made formula is the most expensive type to buy. You can save money by using powdered formula. The great thing about powdered formula is that it is the easiest to store in its dry state as it doesn’t require refrigeration. Once you have mixed it with water, it will need to be refrigerated.

Your next decision is whether to choose formula made from cow’s milk or soy. Formula from cow’s milk is the most popular choice. However, if your baby is lactose intolerant this is not the right option. In the case of lactose intolerance, you can try soy based formula. Soy in general has received bad publicity and is still controversial when it comes to long term consumption. Goat’s milk is also another option for lactose intolerant babies. It contains lower levels of lactose and may be a good option if you are concerned about soy’s effects. If goat’s milk or soy based formulas still don’t appeal to you, there are also cow’s milk formulas that are lactose free.

Newer formulas now have DHA and ARA added to them. Both are found in breast milk and formulas containing them can be a plus for mother’s who are concerned about baby formula benefits. Always consult with your pediatrician if you are unsure about which baby formula to give your baby. You can find out how each type may benefit or which ingredients may not be as important.

Another major concern about bottle feeding is how to handle it while traveling out of town. You will have to take into consideration whether your destination will have a refrigerator, a way to plug in necessities like a bottle sterilizer, as well as a way to have boiled water if you use powdered formula. These types of concerns will become second nature once you get used to the routine of bottle feeding.

One thing to also remember is that baby formula (particularly the ready-made type) can be rather expensive. Even if you choose to use powdered formula, traveling may require the need for keeping ready-made formula handy for times when you don’t have access to boil water. You will need to keep a good supply of baby formula on hand at all times and this can put a huge dent into your budget. There are ways to save on formula by shopping for it in bulk or by using coupons for specific brands like Enfamil or Carnation.

When To Take A Pregnancy Test

Knowing when to take a pregnancy test will help you know whether or not you’re pregnant. If you’re wanting to know when to take a pregnancy test, the timing depends on the type of test.

There are two basic types of pregnancy tests – the urine test and the blood test. Both tests look for the hormone that is only present if a woman is pregnant. This hormone is called ‘human chorionic gonadotropin’, also referred to as ‘hCG’. Blood tests can detect hCG about 6 to 8 days after you have ovulated. In general, urine tests can detect hCG about 14 days after ovulation.

When to take a pregnancy test at home is done by many women using a pregnancy test that will test the urine to determine if they are pregnant. Home pregnancy tests are convenient, inexpensive and are private. The urine test should be done using your first urine when you awake in the morning. When you have a positive home pregnancy test result, you should then see your health care provider soon. Your health care provider will confirm your home test result with a blood test plus a pelvic exam.

When to take a pregnancy test is important, because if you test too early in your pregnancy, there may not yet be enough of the pregnancy hormone in the urine to provide a positive test result. Most of the home pregnancy tests will be 90% accurate if you wait and test yourself one day after your missed period is due. If you feel you are pregnant but the home pregnancy test is negative, repeat the test again in a week if you still have not had your period. And if you are still getting negative test results and think you are pregnant, be sure and see your health care provider right away.

Pregnancy is a wonderful event that is complex, frustrating, satisfying and exciting. Your desire to become pregnant and having a child will have even more significance to you if it means you’ll be taking better care of yourself and your partner. Besides knowing when to take a pregnancy test, learn as much as you can about improving your own health so you’ll be providing that special little one the very best start to life that is possible
