Beyond Fear And Addiction: Six Steps To Healing

There is a wonderful anachronism for FEAR:

False
Evidence
Appearing
Real

Much of the fear in our lives is based on false evidence.

Our bodies are designed to respond with the fight or flight mechanism to real and present danger – such as being physically attacked. In the face of real and present danger, the adrenaline flows and the blood drains out of our organs and brain and into our limbs to prepare us for fight or flight.

Yet many people spend much of their time in the anxiety and stress of fight or flight when there is no real and present danger. This is because the body responds the same way to imagined danger as it does to real danger. The body thinks that the false evidence coming from our thoughts is real.

This constant state of fear and anxiety often leads to various addictions in the hope of numbing out the difficult feelings. Food, alcohol, drugs, nicotine, gambling, sex, TV, shopping, approval, attention, work, anger, rage, violence to self and others – all can be used in attempts to block out painful feelings.

Yet, the addictions themselves are an abandonment of self, in that they are not a healthy and loving way of dealing with painful feelings. And it is self-abandonment that causes the most fear, anxiety, and depression.

Thus, many people are caught in a very negative circle based on self-abandonment:

• Thinking negative thoughts about the future – about rejection, failure, loss of others, loss of self, loss of money – creates fear in the body and is an abandonment of self.

We are abandoning ourselves when we allow ourselves to make up thoughts about the future that scare us. This would be like saying to a child, “You are going to end up alone. No one will ever love you. You will be out on the streets with no food and no help.” Saying this to a child would be considered child abuse, yet many people tell these same things to themselves over and over when there is no objective truth to these statements.

• Once we have created fear with our negative thinking, we try to avoid the fear with our various addictions.

Avoid responsibility for creating our fear by turning to addictions is another self-abandonment. This is like offering a frightened child a cookie instead of addressing the source of the fear. The self-abandonment creates deep inner emptiness and aloneness, which perpetuates the addictive behavior. It also creates neediness, leading to pulling on others for love, approval and attention.

• Addictive behavior perpetuates the original fears – an endless vicious circle of self-abandonment.

MOVING BEYOND FEAR AND ADDICTION

There really is a way out of this! While the process of moving beyond fear and addiction is simple, it is not easy. It takes deep commitment and devotion to your peace and joy.

1) Choose the willingness to feel your painful feelings and take responsibility for creating them, rather than continue avoiding them with your various addictions. It is only when you are willing to be with your feelings rather than avoid them that you can learn about how you are creating your own pain.

2) Consciously decide that you want to learn about what you are thinking or doing that is causing your pain.

3) Dialogue with the part of you that is in fear and pain – you can think of this feeling part of you of a child within – about how you are causing the pain. Discover your thoughts and actions that are causing your pain.

4) Open to learning with a Higher Power – your own highest wisest self, an inner teacher or mentor, a guardian angel, God – about what is the truth regarding your negative thinking and what the loving action is toward yourself.

5) Take the loving action for yourself that you are guided to do in Step 4.

6) Notice how you feel. If you feel more peaceful, then you know that you have taken loving action. If not, then you need to go back through these steps to discover another loving action.

3 Reasons to Stop Being a People Pleaser

It took me years to acknowledge that I was a People Pleaser. I am shifting away from that pattern of behavior and find great relief and satisfaction in the change. Here I am, an independent, successful woman with a mind of my own. How could I be a People Pleaser? Another term to describe this pattern is compliance, and that says more to me regarding my actions. I would consistently avoid conflict, ignore what I didn’t agree with, and do lots of good deeds which would boost my worth. I was mostly nice, except for times of exploded emotion in an attempt to deal with conflict. I did not speak my mind even though I knew what I thought. What I didn’t know so well was what I felt, what my needs were and how to express them.

The moment I discovered I was a People Pleaser was on my birthday last year. A close friend and my husband helped me to celebrate the day. After a leisurely brunch, I said to them, ‘What would you like to do today?’ They replied that this would be my day to make all the decisions and therefore create the perfect day for myself. It seemed so foreign to me to direct the day according to what I wanted! I was honestly exhausted by dinner time and asked for their help to make decisions!

Here are 3 reasons to stop being a People Pleaser.

1. You may discover how to negotiate conflict in a constructive, beneficial exchange. How many times is there a sense of conflict, and you have been unable to even address the conflict, let alone engage in the negotiating by expressing your feelings and needs, or move toward resolution. Life is change, conflict, and compromise. One of the gifts of following the path of resolving conflict is that we learn to honor ourselves in giving and receiving compassion as we learn what our needs are, what other’s needs are and how we can compassionately work together to meet all the needs of each particular situation. There are some basics before any of this can take place. Practice speaking your mind. Find a partner, group or therapist to help you with scenarios as you discover the way you can explain your needs. Find out what your needs are. Discover how to express what you feel and before that, practice saying what you feel by either self talk, journalling or find a friend to help. You will learn to speak your mind in a way that can be understood and appreciated and that will go a long way to being more comfortable with inevitable conflict that teaches us so much.

2. You may discover that your worth does not depend on how many good deeds you do for others at your own expense and personal development. Giving from the heart is an enormous gift to the giver. Giving because of a sense of duty, obligation, or way to a beautiful afterlife is less of a gift to the giver. It is easy to measure the different feel of doing something for someone because of duty or doing something for someone out of love. Connecting to your heart energy is enriching, because the result is a deep relationship with what you most value. This may be helpful to see what, how and why your giving will be translated in your contributions to the outside world.

3. You may discover how to say ‘NO’ and not feel guilty or feel the need to offer an extensive explanation around your answer. A story that illustrated and gave me permission to practice saying ‘NO’ is about a school staff member who telephoned a Mom to ask her to make cupcakes for a school event the following day. There are people who will consistently and ‘happily’ take care of requests. The Mom in this instance decided to say ‘NO’. The world did not fall apart, and the person who had asked the favor, went on to the next name on her list and did find someone to do the task. I’m not saying that ‘NO’ is the obvious and only reply. There is a difference to always saying ‘YES’, and to making a decision whether to say ‘YES’ or ‘NO’. Another way to look at this is to know by saying ‘YES’, what are you saying ‘NO’ to? So take the example of the cupcakes. By saying ‘YES’, there may have been less time for attending a child’s soccer game, reading a bedtime story, or relax time with a spouse after a hectic day. Knowing that you have the option of saying ‘NO’ is very freeing and healthy.

There are plenty of resources available about People Pleasers. You may be glad you explored this pattern in yourself.

Time Management – A Way Of Life

Time management is the meticulous way of performing the tasks in the available number of hours. It has become a necessity in today’s fast-paced life, as a person ends up performing many roles. One has to be committed to fulfill all the responsibilities with 100% perfection. Time management has become the gravest necessity. It basically aims as how the available hours are made use of in such away that all is done correctly as per the need of the hour.

Adopting the Skills in Our Lives

Time management involves a lot of planning and organizing. One has to sit down and chalk out the plan. The most vital factor is bridging the gap between expected and achieved. There are certain steps that help us to manage time perfectly:

· Target: The first and the foremost step is to fix a target in terms of what has to be achieved and in how much time. This could provide an outline, on the basis of which further planning would be undertaken.

· Planning: After ascertaining the needs and the hours, it is the time to attain a perfect balance between the two. Time is allocated to each task to be performed so that the goal is achieved. However, flexibility has to be exercised, as the actual time taken could be different from planned.

· Setting Priorities: Another important aspect is arranging the tasks to be performed in the descending order of priority. When one understands the significance of each event, managing the time becomes easy.

· Time Schedule: Preparing a timetable helps to complete the work on time and meet the goal effectively.

Time management as a whole aims at avoiding wastage of time and proper utilization. The business community also adheres to techniques like resource planning for managing resource. A number of software are used for time management.

In a nutshell, the time normally wasted can be can be put to effective use by making most of time management.

The Benefits Of Time Management

The benefits of time management go much farther then just being more effective at getting your work done. With proper time management one can begin to be proactive and work toward achieving their goals rather then being reactive. People who follow through on the goals that they set for themselves will most likely be successful in their lives.

Practicing good time management takes self-discipline but once you see the benefits of managing your time better, things will fall into place. You will notice great improvements in your work performance and getting tasks completed will seem to be nearly effortless. Making a to-do list helps as you can see what you have to do on paper, making it easier to prioritize tasks. Putting off the difficult jobs can only help your day seem more chaotic as you will be constantly trying to catch up.

Part of good time management techniques might involve getting a routine in place. As you get used to the routine you have set for yourself, you will notice that the daily tasks that you have to do become easier and do not take as long. You will be freeing up some of your day to pursue your goals for life. You will see improvement in your profits of business as well as in your career and home life.

When you start keeping track of where you spend your time and what you spend it on, you will begin to see where you are wasting time. You will be able to see what parts of your day need more attention and what parts are working well. With a routine and set schedules in place, your once hectic day will become a thing of the past. You will also notice an overall improvement in self-esteem and self-confidence as you are able to master any task at hand with much more ease than before.

Incorporating time management skills into your daily routine will greatly improve many aspects of your life. There are many books on the market as well as helpful tools and sites on the internet that offer assistance in getting more organized. There are even some classes available that help teach good time management skills. Success depends on self-discipline in following the schedules you have set for yourself. If you find that the schedules are a bit difficult, it might be time to reorganize them.

How to Manifest Dreams

Lets face it, we all have dreams. And we all want to know how to manifest dreams.

We had dreams since we were young and since

that time we wanted to know how to manifest dreams. We lived our dreams in our imagination. We were brimming with confidence

and were sure that one day we would manifest our dreams. However sadly for most of us, it all ended when we grew up.

Why?

Because the world and all its instruments, including our parents and teachers told us that our dreams are just not possible. So we

gave up on our dreams and followed the paths that were laid out for us.

Some became doctors, others became teachers and some

others followed other professions. However there were those who were determined to manifest their dreams.

They defied the

establishments and followed their passion. They became sports stars, musicians and still others became artists and actors.

When

we look at these people they show us something which is a key ingredient in learning how to manifest dreams. They all have a

passion for what they are doing. They have discovered what they love and they started doing it and found that they are actually

good at it.

And very soon other people noticed it too and started supporting them by wathing their games and movies and buying

their music.

There’s something else that these people have and that we too had when we were young. It is “imagination.” They

imagined their dreams, which is necessary if you want to know how to manifest dreams.

Imagination is very important for

manifesting dreams, because it allows you to experience something before you can actually have it.

If you want to know how to

manifest dreams you must realize that all reality starts in the mind. The architect cannot construct a building if he hasn’t designed

it. And he cannot design something if he hasn’t seen it in his mind.

Similarly you cannot manifest your dreams if you cannot see it

first. But seeing is not enough. It needs to become tangible. You need to hear it, feel it and touch it.

Next you need to affirm it with

emotion in the present or past tense. That indeed it is so.

Another thing that is necessary if you want to know how to manifest

dreams is to listen to yourself and following your gut. That small voice inside you that may tell you to go left when everybody

shouts, “go right!”

Following your dreams seems daunting, especially if you’re surrounded by negative people. However, if you give

up on your dreams you may end your life with regrets.

Isn’t it better to see how far you can go. Where you may end up? In case

you’re thinking who am I to want to be great and famous, let me remind you of the famous words of Maryanne Williamson. Who are

you, not to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?

Now that you know how to manifest dreams, you have no excuse not to

manifest yours.

A Key To Success

Emulating successful people is one key to success. Be careful, though, if you ask them for advice. Often, people don’t really know why they succeed, but they will give you as many explanations as you want anyhow. One night on the news, I saw a 100-year-old man explain that smoking a big cigar every day was one of the secrets of his longevity. It might be nice to know why he has lived so long, but I’m pretty sure we won’t learn by asking him.

Key To Success – Study Successful People

One key, then, isn’t in doing what successful people say, but rather doing what they do. This is how to learn success. Naturally you have to look closely and apply a little brainpower to see what they are really doing that is causing their success.

A successful real estate investor told me he didn’t believe in setting goals. However, watching him and listening to him, I came to realize that he knew just where he expected to be with his projects in six months. This, of course, is goal-setting – he just called the process something else.

Never stop listening to what successful people have to say, but read between the lines. Listen for insight into how they think about things, how they approach their challenges. Suppose the advice of a successful basketball player is just to practice more, but he casually mentions “I saw that going in,” after a great shot. Isn’t it time to start visualizing your shots going in?

Key To Success – Model Successful People

You won’t always know what is causing a person’s success. Internet marketers promote their websites by exchanging links, but when I first tried to exchange links with other websites, the owners didn’t respond to my emails. Then I found a simple email letter used by a successful internet marketer to get links. It sounded silly to me, and I wanted to change it, but I tried it anyhow. It worked repeatedly.

It is more important to do the right things than to understand why they are right. To also understand is great, but at first, it may be best to just copy many of the actions, attitudes and approaches of someone who is succeeding. Try to model success, even before you understand it.

As you learn more, you can drop those parts that aren’t contributing, and add elements of your own. If you model a successful parent, for example, and life with your children gets better, does it matter if you know right away which changes were the most effective? Of course not.

Is it better to understand why what you are doing is working? Certainly, but you may not ever understand why some things work, and this is okay too. It is better to have success than to explain it, so find successful people and do what they do, not what they say. It is an important key to success.

Dealing With The Stresses Of The Corporate World

Your fears, anxieties, and other business related problems have the best of you and you don’t know what to do. Your job in the corporate world is stressing you out. What can a corporate employee do to manage his or her own anxieties and stresses?

The first step is to try to find out what is causing your stresses. Once you know the reasons behind your anxieties, it is easier to develop ways to manage your anxieties and stresses.

An employee has many options he can use to manage his anxieties.

The most important thing to remember is to manage your fears and anxieties one step at a time. Some people make the mistake of trying to get rid of all of their fears at the same time. When they do this, they are unsuccessful and the fears and anxieties continue bothering the person.

Learn to plan ahead. Some people wait to the last minute to do things. This can be a mistake. Before going to work in the mornings, set up a list of things you want to accomplish that specific day. When you achieve these daily goals at the end of the workday, you will feel more productive and be less stressed.

If your corporate job is the source of your anxieties, then maybe you should try to find another job or find another company. People change jobs all the time nowadays. There is nothing wrong in finding another company or job that will be less stressful for you.

Learn to take advantage of the help that is available. There are many stress workshops for employees who are stressed and anxious. Go to a few sessions to get additional ideas on managing the stress of your corporate job.

Stress and anxiety can lead to many health problems so it is important to be able to know how to reduce your current anxieties. Do not let your job take you to an early grave.

5 Quick Stress Busters

How do you react when your plans fall through? Do you roll with the punches? Or does anxiety keep you from enjoying life? To a great extent, our personality determines how we deal with stress in our lives, but here are 5 things to help keep your stress under control:

1. Sleep more. It’s very common in our society to exist on less than 6 hours of sleep a night. But experts keep telling us we need at least 8 hours. Not just to rest our bodies, but to rejuvenate our minds. “Tired” and “cranky” seem to go hand in hand. Don’t use your bedroom to watch the news or finish up some work from the office. Make that room your haven, a place to relax and escape the day. Have a hot cup of tea, take a warm bath, or read a paperback to help you unwind.

2. Have faith. Saying a short prayer in times of stress can give you a sense of calm, especially when the situation is one you really have no control over. Studies have shown that people who trust in a higher power have lower blood pressure. Being able to forgive people also can affect your blood pressure. Holding a grudge is not good for your health!

3. Turn it off. The convenience that cell phones have added to our lives can actually be a double-edged sword. We depend on them so much it seems we can’t live without them. This increased accessibility means not only can our loved ones reach us at any time, but so can work. If your employer legitimately needs to have your cell phone number, make sure you set clear limits on when you can and cannot be reached. Your time off is yours.

4. Take a holiday. It doesn’t have to be a fancy vacation resort. A day at the beach, or an afternoon at the park will do. Just anywhere you can be and not think about the bills, work, or whatever tensions you may have. It’s important to take time for yourself, so do it! You’ll feel better with a fresh outlook.

5. Treat yourself. Sign up for a yoga class at your local gym or community center. The costs are nominal, and you’ll feel more relaxed after even just one session. A monthly massage or a spa treatment is also a great way to recharge. You’ll walk out feeling like a million dollar bowl of jelly.

Stress is unavoidable. But what we do about it is up to us. Experiment with these suggestions and see what works for you!

Karma versus Meditation

The Karma lives with us, the karma is part of our lives from the very moment of our birth to the moment of our death, because every time that we do something and even every time that we stop doing something, that generates karma, and you cannot avoid it in any way.

Of course that not all the karma that we generate is the same, there is a kind of karma that ties us or chains us to this life, and another kind of karma that liberates us of the reincarnation cycle.

The karma that chains us, known as Vishayakarma, has as fruits the misery and the lack of interior peace, while the karma generated by good actions or disinterested actions, know as the Sreyokarma allow us to reach the prosperity and the happiness of the soul, that it is much more than reaching the simple external happiness.

Every time that we face an activity with the desire of obtaining a certain result, this throws us into the arms of the desire, the greed and the ego demons, while only the pure actions that we do for love without taking into account the possible consequences of them, are the kind of actions that drive us little by little toward the illumination and the liberation.

That ones whose nature allows them to carry out this kind of unselfish activities, little by little realize that God provides them of all that they need and of all that confers them the interior peace. Another form of achieving the yearned interior peace is the meditation.

Perhaps you might ask yourself why? Why is the meditation so necessary?

Because the man always acts in two dimensions, the external dimension governed by the physical senses, and the internal dimension governed by the intelligence and the mind.

The internal conscience cannot move for itself, but rather needs the guide of the intelligence and the mind, that are the ones related with the external world, they are as the oxen that pull a carriage. These oxen are anxious to begin to walk, but to take us to the correct destination they should be educated, they should be indicated which is the route that takes us to the place to which wants to arrive the internal conscience. And these are the roads of the Truth, the Rightness, the Peace and the Love.

Then to liberate us from the enslaving karma, it is necessary to teach the intelligence and mind’s oxen the art of dragging the carriage of the internal conscience, and this is achieved by means of the practices of the meditation and the repetition of the name of God.

And the conscience, to be able to guide the oxen of the intelligence and the mind, must calm and control the conflicting desires that infest the mind, and this is achieved when we learn how to point our mind to a single direction.

When thanks to the meditation, the bewildered mind dives in the view and repetition of the name of the Lord, the Divine Splendor able to burn the wrong and to illuminate the happiness is manifested.

It is easy to understand the benefits of the meditation. Anyone that undertakes a task, knows that only when he concentrates his efforts toward a single point, he can achieve the desired success. Even the most insignificant tasks require concentration, and the power of an unshakable effort is so big, that even the worst difficulties surrender to it.

When we practice the meditation in the Supreme Being, the mind learns how to retire its attention from the material objects, and the life acquires a new splendor when we get aware of the Divine Essence that is inside us, and guides us into the state of Blessedness.

How sweet is a fruit? There’s no way to explain that appropriately, the only way of knowing that is to eat the fruit.

How good is the meditation? There’s no way of knowing the taste of its fruits until we don’t decide to experience it.

Astrology and Mankind

American Heritage Dictionary defines Astrology as the study of the positions and aspects of celestial bodies in the belief that they have an influence on the course of natural earthly occurrences and human affairs. Planetary observation is the basis of Astrology. The practice of astrology was prevalent in the ancient times as well. History of Astrology is an important part of civilization and goes back to the early days of the human race. Some of the well-known civilizations of the world used this field extensively. For example, the ancient Chinese civilization, the Egyptian civilization, the ancient Indian civilization, etc all practiced astrology at some point or the other. Arabs too practiced Astrology before the advent of Islam. Arabs were quite advanced in the field of Astronomy.

The ancient Babylonians were probably the first to use Astrology. The Babylonians were the first to name the days of the week after the Sun, Moon, and planets. They were also the first to set out the twelve houses of the horoscope. Baghdad and Damascus were known as centers of Astrology and Astronomy in olden times. Egypt contributed a lot towards the development of Astrology. It is thought that some of the astrological signs of the zodiac originated in Egypt.

Greek astronomer Ptolemy was the first ever person to write a book on Astrology. He codified the sun sign astrology that we know today. Ptolemy tried to predict the positions of celestial bodies relative to each other and the earth through knowledge of their orbital motions. During his time, astrology was a part of astronomy. Later, astronomy became an exact science and Astrology remained a part of Theology.

Chinese astrology stresses on the five elements, metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. Even the zodiac signs used by them are also different from other forms of astrology.

India has a rich history of Astrology. Astrology was practiced even in the Vedic times in India. Astrology is one of the six disciplines of Vedanga. Ancient Hindu Scriptures too give a lot of importance to the various aspects of planetary motions and its effects on humans. Astrology is still studied and practiced by many in India. It is regarded as vital in Indian culture. It is used to make decisions about marriage, starting of new businesses, and moving into a new house etc. The Hindus believe that human fortune or misfortune in life is due to karma, and karma is believed to be influenced by the movements of the planets. Among the Hindus, Brahmins are considered to be the best authorities on astrology. The astrologers in India claim that it is a scientific method to predict the future. They still club this field of study within the parameters of Hinduism. Hindus almost unanimously believe in astrological predictions. In fact, religious Hindus cannot imagine life without Astrology. More and more Indians have started to build their houses according to the principles of Vastu Shashtra. This ancient Indian tradition is also governed by astrological implications. Hindus believe that the overall prosperity and benefits of the occupants is dependant on the Vastu principles while building the house. Indian Astrologers claim that they can prove that astrological predictions are indeed scientific.

Horoscope is a part of Astrology. Reading the horoscope daily has become a trend even in the developed countries of the West. The Western mind has always put everything subject to scrutiny and they tend to rely solely on scientific facts. But that is not preventing the western people from being obsessed with their horoscopes. Suddenly, the western world has woken up to the possibility of knowing and improving their future with the use of astrology. More and more westerners have started to believe in the possibility of getting affected by the powerful planets and stars. Western scholars have included the subject of astrology in their research. Astrology was never scrutinized and researched ever before the way it has been done over the last few years. In this regard, the Indian astrologers should come forward and show the world the power that astrology holds.
